"Starting with the youngest, we believe in inspiring and promoting reading for pleasure, so that every child will become an independent lifelong reader. Children are innately curious and we endeavour to support their enthusiasm for learning by guiding and teaching strategies for handling information" Patricia Chandler, DUCKS Librarian
Our College Libraries are at the heart of the College as a 21st century resource supporting and enhancing teaching and learning and also encouraging the development of independent learning and critical thinking. The libraries are staffed by professionally qualified Teacher Librarians, assisted by Library Assistants and teams of Student Library Assistants. There are separate libraries in DUCKS, Junior School and Senior School and Students are welcome to visit and borrow from any of them.
"We are committed to finding That Book which will be the hook that starts a child on the journey to being a lifelong reader. But not only are our libraries about the wonderful world of books, they are also about seeing our students reading, researching, collaborating and relaxing." Sarah Mounsey, Junior School Librarian
We have a developing stock of nearly 30,000 items including fiction, non-fiction, reference books, periodicals, newspapers, textbooks, revision guides, online encyclopedias, e-books, DVDs, CDs and a number of online databases. The stock is catalogued by the Dewey Decimal classification system and all students are taught to become confident users, proficient at locating suitable resources using this internationally used system. The web-based catalogue Destiny is accessible via the student portal and as a mobile app, Destiny Quest, allowing staff, students and parents to access the catalogue whenever they need in order to both reserve and review items.
"It is essential that the Library be considered the hub of the College. The place that Students and Teachers go to read, research and relax" Jane Hayes, Senior School Librarian
We organise annual book events and hold both internal and external competitions. Students are encouraged to engage with the Library and its facilities to stay in touch with new books, current news and competitions. Dulwich College (Singapore) clearly embraces the ethos that providing our community with well resourced Library facilities run by enthusiastic and well experienced Staff will take us to the Moon!
"The Library is where you can be yourself - and hundreds of others!" Lottie, Year 7
